About the Role
we are seeking a visionary and hands-on Lead AI Architect to pioneer and scale engineering-specific AI systems within our Digital Engineering Systems (DES) group. In this strategic technical leadership role, you will define and execute the engineering AI reference architecture, orchestrating production-ready AI agents, autonomous engineering workflows, and intelligent integrations across CAD, PLM, CAE, and product development domains.
Bridging deep engineering domain context with modern generative AI technologies, you will serve as the principal technical authority. You will initially lead solution architecture and hands-on delivery, collaborating seamlessly with central IT AI platform teams and vendor ecosystems, before recruiting and mentoring a dedicated engineering AI implementation team as the program expands.
Key Responsibilities:
- Architect, establish, and scale the reference architecture for engineering-specific AI, integrating cleanly with enterprise AI platforms and central services.
- Design domain-specific semantic frameworks, context services, engineering ontologies, and advanced Graph/RAG pipelines across CAD, PLM, and simulation ecosystems.
- Drive hands-on development and architecture of production multi-agent systems, complex engineering workflows, tool calling, and MCP (Model Context Protocol) servers.
- Evaluate build-vs-buy decisions across LLM agents, deterministic engineering rules, geometric computation, and surrogate physics models.
- Lead rigorous technical assessments and vendor due diligence for engineering AI platforms including PTC Creo/Windchill AI, Ansys AI, CoLab, and Synera.
- Partner with Databricks/OneData teams and domain application owners to establish trusted engineering data lineage, context retrieval, and access controls.
- Ensure robust security, enterprise identity propagation, CI/CD, runtime reliability, and comprehensive governance across all deployed AI services.
- Recruit, mentor, and technically lead engineering AI developers, integration engineers, and technical contributors as the portfolio scales.
Required Qualifications & Skills:
- Bachelorβs or Masterβs degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, AI, Mechanical/Electrical Engineering, or a related discipline.
- Typically 12+ years of progressive software architecture and engineering experience with demonstrable enterprise-scale impact.
- Proven hands-on track record delivering production Generative AI and agentic workflows (LLM tool calling, multi-agent orchestration, evaluation, and guardrails).
- Advanced proficiency in Python and backend enterprise engineering, alongside deep REST/gRPC API integration and MCP server implementations.
- Substantial domain understanding across at least two engineering ecosystems: CAD, PLM, CAE/simulation, requirements management, or NPD workflows.
- Demonstrated experience in enterprise cloud architectures, identity/access management (IAM), DevSecOps, and AI application security.
- Strong executive presence and technical authority to challenge vendor implementations and steer cross-functional technical teams.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Hands-on experience with industrial engineering software such as PTC Creo, PTC Windchill, Ansys, Synera, or CoLab.
- Expertise in knowledge graphs, GraphRAG, vector databases, ontology modeling, and geometric feature recognition.
- Familiarity with modern orchestration frameworks such as LangGraph, Semantic Kernel, and cloud AI suites like Amazon Bedrock.
- Background in surrogate modeling, deterministic engineering validation, and end-to-end digital thread implementations.
What We Offer / Benefits:
- Competitive total compensation package including comprehensive health, dental, and vision coverage.
- Exceptional retirement savings plans with generous employer matching contributions.
- High-impact leadership role shaping cutting-edge AI transformations in global manufacturing and engineering.
- Substantial professional development opportunities and resources for continuous learning and innovation.
- Collaborative, diverse, and forward-thinking engineering culture driven by technical excellence.
